1. Home STD Test Kits

gonorrhea at home test kitIf you are looking for a cheap and super convenient way to get an STD test, this is it.

All you need to do is buy an STD test kit online, swab your mouth or provide a urine sample, and then send it back to the lab by mail.

When you buy from the right place, you can be assured of full confidentiality.

Among the three STD testing options that will be discussed in this article, home testing kits are the cheapest. Full test kits cost around $150 while kits for a testing a single STD cost between $50 -$60.

Unlike going to a doctor, you do not have to make an appointment or travel to a hospital. Everything can be done from the comfort of your home.

That said, home test kits do have their drawbacks.

Unreliable results

Since home test kits do not adhere to stringent FDA handling standards, there is a chance that the results will be inaccurate. The FDA specifically warns about the unreliability of these tests.

For this reason, it is recommended that you seek a doctor’s advice if you get a positive result on a home test.

Lack of counseling

This is one method where there is no counseling at all. This can leave you hanging, especially for those who get positive test results.

2. Online Test Labs in NYC (totally confidential)

Another option for those who would like the assurance of accuracy is online STD test labs.

Because testing takes place in a traditional lab with rigorous standards, STD test results from online labs are highly accurate. You also get to maintain your privacy thorough the process.

The cost of an online lab test is somewhere between home test kits and a doctor’s visit. Compared to what you would pay to make a doctor’s appointment, the price is very affordable. Some online STD labs will even bill your insurance provider directly.

STD test results are provided online after you submit a sample at a local lab (takes about 5 mins).

You identity is unknown during the entire procedure. The lab will use a code to identify you during sampling and when reporting test results.

With this option, you do not have to worry about false positives or false negatives. The whole process is handled under proper lab conditions.

Counseling Is Available

Optional counseling is provided for those who wish for further guidance after the test results.

Other than being a little more expensive than home test kits, online test labs are one of the best options for STD testing.

How An Online STD Test Works

The process begins by ordering the test online. You will then be directed to a local lab where you will give a urine or blood sample.

The lab visit takes a mere five minutes.

To maintain privacy, you will provide a code instead of your name.

Within two to three days after submitting a sample, you will receive your test results online. For an extra fee, you can get the result in one day.
